Unhealthy Food Isn’t Unhealthy If You Don’t Eat It

by Gordon Smith

Only In America . Thoughts On The Moment

I’m listening to the Diane Rehm show on NPR and they’ talking about Uncle Sam’s new recommendations on diet and food consumption. What a crock, no pun intended. The problem isn’t Uncle Sam. The problem is you, fat ass!

Correct me if I’m wrong but salt/sodium is used quite often to manipulate taste. Often in foods we wouldn’t even expect it in. For example, diet soda has quite a bit of sodium, does it not? So the reality is those drinking diet soda are just trading one poison (HFCS) for another (sodium). Oddly enough, no one complains when Coke’s and Pepsi’s stocks climb. Maybe it’s, “The richer get richer and the poor get fatter?”

More seafood? What?!?! From where, the already over-fished oceans? Is that really a recommendation they want to make? Those who know understand there’s not enough healthy fish farms to supply the USA if we actually do shift to a more healthy diet. This recommendation is naive at best. And fish ain’t cheap either. I gots to have my rims too you know. LOL

You want to eat right? Stop buying pre-processed food and learn to cook. Saving 10 to 20 minutes not cooking a meal for yourself isn’t a saving if it takes 60 minutes off your life. And if you want to know when to watch what you eat because you’re gaining weight? When you look down and can’t see your knee caps it’s time to be alarmed. Guys, if you can see your wiener—pun intended—stop eating and get your ass movin’. Hot chicks don’t dig fat asses.

I’d also like to mention that I had a conversation with a bud of mine in FLA and he sez that the concept of calorie is flawed. It’s not just about calories, it’s ultimately about nutrition. Also, how many people know how much activity 1,000 calories is? Calories should be put in a context people understand. If I know a burger is going to take X hours of activity to burn off and I only have half X in free time then maybe I’ll down size my meal? As it is, calorie might as well be Latin.

While I appreciate Uncle Sam’s efforts this isn’t rocket science. If people can’t feed themselves properly then they should be allowed to vote or have children. If they can’t be responsible for themselves, why should they be allowed to impose that ignorance on others?

Finally, the problem with the health care in the USA isn’t the system, it’s the quality of the health of the people in the system. There’s not a system in the world that can support the excess we expect our health care to handle.
