Ben Roethlisberger versus Michael Vick

by Gordon Smith

Lawyers, Guns & Money . Man's Worst Friends . No. No. No, And No . Squandering Fame . Thoughts On The Moment

Granted anyone can accuse anyone of anything at anytime, so without an actual conviction there’s only so much we can hold against Roethlisberger. That said, we all know how these things work, especially when it comes to sexual assault. We see it on TV all the time. The lawyers step in and play hardball with the accuser. They drag out a couple skeletons, whip up the perception of at least some possible reasonable doubt and then they close with asking the woman if she really wants to use up here 15 minutes of fame on something like this. So not being charged probably isn’t saying much. Also, nor would the NFL suspend him with there wasn’t a smoking gun.

Yet while white Big Ben walks with his head up and high fives all around, Vick is still trying to shake the stigma of running dog fights? Are you fxxckin’ serious? Assaulting women is forgivable but dog fighting is not? That’s fxccked up. I don’t think dog fighting is a good thing. But why is Vick being held to such a higher standard? Who’s daughter or wife did he party with and serve breakfast to?

Or how about the number of DWIs in the NFL? I just Goggled “NFL + DWI” and got over 80,000 results. WTF? Effin’ Donte Stallworth! He killed a guy and not only did he not go to jail but he’s still playing in the NFL. And what about steroids? I’d rather see my kid fighting dogs than DWI or ‘roids. Where’s the fxxcking reference point already?

I’m the last one to expect a perfect world but with the Super Bowl tomorrow can we all just promise to forgive Mike Vick and move on already? He did his crime. He did his time. Come next season I don’t want to hear any more PETA shxxt about Vick unless PETA comes out with a more humanized definition of ethical.
